The reps I work with are not interested in being average. Instead, they are anxious to overachieve and succeed in a sales job at a new level. When asked for my advice on how to succeed in a sales job, I offer the following tips.

Focus On Benefits

Sell the clean floor and not the mop. Don’t focus on how your product functions or operates. These things may be important to you but your prospect is primarily interested in benefits. Never present a feature without fully explaining how that feature with benefit your prospect. This is how the Superstars sell and why they succeed in sales.

 

Focus On Your Prospect’s Problem

People don’t buy things just for the sake of buying things. To succeed in a sales job, you must uncover problems that you can solve with your product or service. If you can save someone money or make them more productive and they are not doing something about it, that’s a problem! Solve problems and you’ll succeed in a sales job.

Even the greatest sales reps in the world will fail if they can’t generate a rich supply of qualified prospects. Powerful prospecting skills will allow you to succeed in a sales job because you’ll only spend your time with people that can and will buy from you. So, develop your telephone sales skills!

I don’t provide sales training. Instead, I show salespeople how to live, earn, be, do, learn and become more. My job is to give them that plan. With that plan, my clients learn how to succeed in sales.
