Sales Skills For A CEO Should Be A Top Priority

Many, but not all, CEOs have excellent sales skills. This is due to the fact that most CEO began their careers in the Sales Department. No one understands market demands better than a sales rep because they touch clients and prospects every day. Today, I have some advice for CEOs that never worked in sales and need to improve their sales skills.

CEOs play many important roles and one role that can’t be ignored is Chief Executive Salesperson. A CEO has to “sell” employees on his or her corporate vision. A CEO also has to sell their company to Wall Street and sell their Board of Directors on new corporate strategies. A CEO is often engaged to meet with large prospects and clients. As the manager of the V.P. of Sales, CEOs need to understand the sales process. There is no way around the fact that CEOs need superior sales techniques.

CEO Sales Skills

CEOs need to first appreciate that “sales” is a profession that requires special skills. The process of selling involves a series of steps and each step is linked to the next step in the sales process. Sales skills allow salespeople to successfully execute the steps in the sales process. You understand how clients are generated once you understand the sales process.

The CEO’s next step is to acquire those sales skills. Due to the demands of a busy schedule, most CEOs can’t afford to spend a few days at a sales training seminar or sales training class. They need a much more convenient way to acquire sales skills. I have a recommendation I’d like those CEO to consider.

CEOs looking to acquire sales skills should get their hands on a professional sales training DVD or CD program. In order to insure they are getting all the sales skills they need, the sales training program should cover the entire sales process. One such program is “The Progressive Sales Process”.
