An Elevator Pitch May Take You Down

Learn How To Write An Elevator Pitch

From Nick Moreno

The Elevator Pitch launched a whole new industry of consultants. The same thing happened with the introduction of Mission Statements. You were told a well-crafted elevator pitch would grow your business and increase sales. Did it?

I think the consultants are the only ones that made money with these elevator pitch sales “tools”. I have some elevator pitch advice for you.

So you worked on your elevator pitch and you structured it just like the book instructed. You keep it short yet still captured what you do for a living and how people benefit from it. You deliver your little commercial announcement at every opportunity but get few, if any, takers. At this point, you’re ready to give up on your elevator pitch. Let me explain why elevator pitches don’t work.

Elevator Pitch Information

We spend our days bombarded by information. This information is all around us in the form of some kind of commercial. We are so overwhelmed by these commercials we don’t even notice them. Your memorized elevator pitch is just one more commercial. We even call it “a pitch”! It’s “in one ear and out the other”! I understand there is still a need to get the word out about your business so let me introduce you to something much more effective than an elevator pitch.

Effective Elevator Pitch

What’s more effective than a pitch? How about a good old fashion conversation? Talking with someone, instead of at someone. Let’s replace “Elevator Pitch” with “Elevator Pitch Conversation”. The key is knowing how to get the conversation started and how to craft your message in your elevator pitch. That’ the focus of this sales strategy.

How To Write An Elevator Pitch

Start your elevator pitch conversation with a brief yet vague comment about how people benefit from your product or service. You want the recipient asking, “How do you do that?”. Here a some examples for different professions,

Nutritionist
“I help people live longer and with more energy”

Funeral Director
“I take care of families when they need it most”

Telecommunications Sales Rep
“I keep companies connected with their employees and clients”

Sales Trainer
“I help salespeople around the world earn a lot more money”

The Perfect Elevator Pitch

It’s only logical for someone to ask how you accomplish what you just told him or her about what you do for a living. Bingo.. The conversation started and your new prospect is anxious to learn more! Please don’t just launch into that old elevator pitch at this point. Ask some open-ended questions and stay in conversation mode. Craft your message in that conversation and stay on point. Follow the sales process and you’ll be in good shape with your new elevator pitch.

I like to look at things differently, just as I did with elevator pitches. I like to find things that aren’t working and fix them. That the approach I take in all my sales training programs. If you are looking for innovative sales skills, sales strategies and new prospecting techniques, you’ll find them in my DVD programs.

My best to you always and good luck with your elevator pitch.
