As a sales trainer, reps contact me anxious to improve sales results. When they contact me, I can’t help but to be focused on the word “results”. It appears to me that they are working on deals that all to often fail to go their way. They want better results because they are tired of spinning their wheals. Here is the advice I often give them on how to best improve sales results.

Improve Sales Results By “Disqualifying”

One way to improve sales results is to stop qualifying and start disqualifying. When salespeople think about qualifying, they feel a job responsibility to do just that, qualify the prospect. When that happens, the salesperson begins to hear what they want to hear instead of hearing what they need to hear.  You can’t improve sales results by working with prospects that can’t or will not buy from you.

A better way to improve sales results is by assuming the role of “disqualifier”. Develop that mind set and you’ll be sure to work only with prospects that can and will buy from you. Respect the fact that your time is both precious and limited. Improve sales results by uncovering reasons to walk away from “opportunities” that have little chance of closing in your favor.

Improve Sales Results With Solid Sales Strategies

“Winging It” is no way to improve sales results. You can’t make sales strategy decisions on the fly. You need a repeatable sales strategy that uncovers a need or problem you can address with your product or service. Improve sales results by leaving “Winging It” to your competition.

The next part of you repeatable strategy to improve sales results has to do with presenting your product as the solution to the problem you’ve uncovered. Improve sales results by “selling” benefits and by cost justifying your solution.

Improve Sales Results By Using The Sales Process

If you never heard of The Sales Process or are not sure what it is, stop reading and get some Sales Process training. The Sales Process is the only way to consistently sell something so it is the largest factor when it comes to improving sales results.

Now, I have a question for those that know about the Sales Process. Are you using it? Just because you know something doesn’t mean you are using it. If you are not using the Sales Process you’ll never be able to improve sales results. Let’s go one step further. If you are not a master at executing the Sales Process, you’ll never improve sales results.

Use Sales Training To Improve Sales Results

I’m sure you heard the definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. The same holds true in sales. If you keep using the same skills, over and over, expect the same sales results.

Improve sales results by getting some new sales skills. Get your hands on some effective sales training program.  The serious sales pros earn most of the commissions because they appreciate the value of sales training.
