Help… I Lost My Sales Job! So You Lost Your Sales Job, Now What?
I’m sorry you lost your sales job but enough of that, we have work to do. This is not the time to feel sorry for yourself. This is a time to get busy and get back in the race. You may have lost your sales job but another door will open. I have some advice for those that recently lost their sales job. There are a lot of sales reps saying, “I lost my sales job” and many of them are top pros.
Reason You Lost Your Sales Job
This is a time to be brutally honest with yourself. It’s even hard to say, “I lost my sales job”. How come you lost your sales job? Forget all the excuses and why it wasn’t your fault. Unless your office was closed, you probably contributed to the loss of your sales job in some degree. My job is not to just provide comfort to those that lost their sales job. My goal is to get you back on track.
Were you a sales rep on a PIP? Did the PIP identify areas to improve? Work to identify the selling skills that need to improve. For example, you may have a problem packing your funnel with qualified prospects. In that case, you’ll want to work on your cold calling techniques. I don’t want you ever say “I lost my sales job” again.
Were you caught up in a lay off or reduction in force? Was everyone terminated or just the lowest sales producers? If we’re going to get healthy fast, we need an honest assessment of the conditions that lead to your termination. Were you one of the lowest producers? Why? What will you do to make things different at your new sales position? The corrective actions you take now will keep you from ever forever saying, “I lost my sales job”. Were you just in a sales slump.
Attitude About A Lost Sales Job
Remain confident and quickly heal that bruised ego. Salespeople march with confidence and your new hiring manager must see that confidence in you. So, you lost your sales job! Congratulations! You now have an opportunity to find a better sales job. This time you’ll be saying “I got promoted” instead of “I lost my sales job”.
You probably did not lose your sales job overnight. Most likely, you’ve spent the last few weeks, if not months, working under great pressure. Well, all that’s behind you now. Take some time to calm down but limit that time to no more than three days. You may have lost your sales job but this is no time to start developing bad habits.
Find A New Sales Job
I’m not going to waste your time telling you stuff you already know about finding a new sales job. However, there are some points I want you keep in mind.
In today’s economy, you may have lost your sales job but many others are in the same boat. “I lost my sales job” is a popular search term for this site. Fact is, there is no reason to be embarrassed. Tell the world that you’ve lost your sales job and start networking. You can start networking by posting your needs on my new networking site for salespeople. Many recruiters visit the site so insure they know you are available.
Sales Skills Development
If you lost your sales job because you weren’t selling enough, what are you doing about it? You need a plan to insure it never happens again. You need a plan to transform yourself into a sales powerhouse. Put yourself on a mission to close more sales. If not now, when? I just gave you some great sales advice. Let the competition be the one saying, I lost my sales job”.
Spend some of your downtime developing your skills and sales strategies. Get some solid sales training and forget the notion that it’s too expensive. First, sales training videos are quite inexpensive and second, this is something you can’t afford to pass up. If you are having a problem finding qualified prospects, focus on sales prospecting training.
Last, remember that just because you lost your sales job, the world will not end. Use this opportunity to take control of your career and know that good things will happen. Stop saying, “I lost my sales job” and get going with a new sales position that rocks! You can do it!
