How A Stimulus Program For Salespeople Could Fix This Economy
We hear a lot about stimulus programs in today’s world. The concept behind these programs is to stimulate this economy and get people buying. Perhaps the emphasis should be on stimulating “selling” and not so much on “buying”. Salespeople, after all, generate sales. When you look at it that way, you begin to understand the benefits of a stimulus program for salespeople.
How A Stimulus Program For Salespeople Would Work
We know that one key motivating factor for sales reps is money. When commission rates are increased, salespeople get motivated to sell more. How much more motivated would you be if you just got a 25% increase in your commission rate?
Here is how I would structure a bailout or stimulus program for salespeople. Simply reduce the Federal income tax on commissions for one year by 25%. You would also need a well defined criteria for what qualifies as a “sales rep”. That said, I think this proposed commission increase would generate a flurry of sales activity. Isn’t that what we are attempting to do with all these stimulus programs? Remember, you only have one year to take advantage of this program. The message to salespeople would be, “Get it while the getting’s good”.
Real Estate agents would start working day and night to sell more homes. Cars would be flying off the lot. Sales activity in every industry would increase to an all time high. A stimulus program for salespeople would greatly “Pump up the volume”.
Now comes part two of this stimulus program for salespeople. There are over 12M salespeople in this country. What do you think all these salespeople will do with the extra money? That’s right, spend it! The more they spend, the more the economy grows. Also, as they start spending more, sales tax revenues will greatly increase benefiting local governments. Companies would have to hire more people to keep up with increase in volume. Look, we just fixed everything!
I know this stimulus package for salespeople is just an off the wall concept that has a zero chance of ever getting implemented. I just wanted to take a moment to sell you on it! I doubt President Obama has the time or interest to read this sales training blog and who can blame him.
There is still one item that may help. Talk with your accountant and see if you qualify for a tax deduction if you get some sales training.
Everything is getting bailed out. How about a little piece for my friends, salespeople!
