How To Make Sales Force Training Work

Sales force training has its problems. To start with, it can be very expensive and then you to take your reps out of the field. No wonder so many organizations shy away from sales force training. Well, all that’s about to change. I have some advice for you on sales force training.

To be effective, sales force training should not be a one time event. Instead, sales force training should be ongoing throughout the year. Just about every sales organization has weekly sales meetings. A portion of those meeting should be dedicated to sales force training. Imagine where your sales attainment would be now if you started this type of sales force training a year ago.

Let’s make this simple, effective and inexpensive. Purchase a professional sales training DVD and play 10 or 15 minutes at the end of your weekly sales meetings. Then, spend ten minutes discussing the training and how to effectively use it in the field. By the end of the year, your sales force will have been exposed to over 21 hours of expert sales training.

Walk around any sales office and you’ll hear a lot of chatter. Unfortunately, very little of that chatter is about prospecting and sales strategies. All that changes when you start using this weekly sales force training method. Suddenly, reps are focused on improving the skills required for sales success.

Besides increasing sales, there are other benefits of sales force training. Activity increases because sales reps get anxious to put their new skills to good use. Also, nothing is more motivating than continuous success.

Begin your sales force training program with a sales training video about the Sales Process. This is a great way to build a solid foundation for more advanced sales training. You have to start with the basics and build from there. Before you know it, you’re running a sales training academy!

I often ask Sales Managers about what they are doing to increase sales. The typical response has something to do with increasing activity. Increasing activity may get you few more orders but increasing sales skills drives overwhelming sales success. Success will always go to the sales force with the best sales skills. The only way to acquire those skills is by focusing on sales force training.

I hope you put this advice on sales force training to good use.

I wish your sales force the best of success!
