In a drive towards peak performance, I’m often asked about the keys to sales success. This is a very complicated question and the best I can do is highlight a few important points about generating sales success. So, let’s get started with this Guide about some important elements that drive sales success.

Motivation
Most reps will tell you that are totally motivated to succeed in sales. I have a different take on the subject. You may think you are motivated but are you also having fun? If you don’t enjoy your work, you will never enjoy sales success.
Time Management
It’s easy for sales reps to stay busy but sales success only goes to reps that stay busy with money-making activities. Reports, internal meetings, data entry and a host of other activities may keep you busy but they’ll never put one penny in your pocket.
Time management also includes insuring your time is invested productively. Sales success is about working only with highly qualified prospects. If you are going to lose, lose early.
Development
Selling requires skills. Sales success is about a career long commitment to develop those skills. It’s never about working harder at things that don’t work very well. Sales success is about working smarter and you do just that when you stay surrounded with sales training.
Focus On Results
Who cares how many appointments you had or how many proposals you generated? The only thing that matters is your close rate. Yes, you need high activity but high activity alone will not generate sales success. High activity that produces results is the key to sales success.
Think Like A Top Pro
Too many sales reps have to think about selling and what they need to say next to a prospect. The top pros don’t have to think about the sales process. The top pros have total command of their selling skills and call upon them as a reflex action.
For example, you don’t have to think about driving a car unless you are a student driver. Sales success is about moving well past the student stage of forced thinking. Sales success is about having total command of your sales skills.
Prospecting Skills
Sales success is about a rich funnel packed with highly qualified prospects anxious to do business with you. The greatest sales skills in the world are useless unless you have someone to sell something to. Sales success is about mastering prospecting skills.
A Plan With Strategy
Armatures “wing it”. Sales success is about having a plan for every sales opportunity. That plan must be packed with strategic sales strategies designed to efficiently and effectively close the deal.
Focus On Needs
Sales success is about focusing on the prospect’s needs and how your product perfectly addresses those needs. Only then can you understand why a prospect must buy from you. Even if you are not earning a ton of commissions, there is always free sales training available on the Net.
Sell Benefits
Forget how a product operates or functions. Those things will not drive sales success. Instead, focus on how those functions will benefit the prospect. Sales success is about selling the “clean floor” and not the “mop”. Prospects want a clean floor, not a mop, so sell the clean floor.
I could go on forever with this Sales Success Guide. My goal was to highlight a few important points. The ultimate point about sales success is to insure you are focused on improving sales skills. Sales success will always go to the rep that uses the best sales strategies.
