Struggling In Sales Never Lasts Forever
Just got a call from a struggling sales rep that needed to close one of two deals to make his numbers this year. He is a good rep but he sure is struggling this year.
Well, the bad news is that he just lost one of the two potential sales. I was going to do a Lost Order Review with him to see what went wrong. I decided against it because that’s not what he needed. He needed to find a way to get back his confidence and return to the race. This situation was not like working with a rep in a slump. This was deeper that that. Like I mentioned, I knew this rep and I knew his sales skills were just fine.
So, here was my advice for my struggling sales rep friend,
Maintain Contact With Friends, Family And Associates
I told him I was glad he called me. I then told him to contact at least two people in his life, every day, for the next two weeks. What he talked about wasn’t important. I just wanted him to stay connected.
Have Fun
I told him to go out and have some fun. Find a way to laugh about things and that laughter will lead to a better direction. Struggling reps never have enough fun and I wanted him to be different.
Stay Positive
I’m not one to tell a struggling sales rep that things will get better. Fact is, things may get worst before they get better. However, at some point, it will get better. Focus on that point and stay positive. A positive attitude is a requirement if anyone expects to get through a difficult period. Never loose touch with your motivation.
Focus On Health
Sleep and eat right. Exercise daily. Don’t start to develop unhealthy habits because those habits will never help you. Now, more than ever, stay healthy and keep your physical strength up.
So, that’s my advice for struggling sales reps. If you find yourself struggling, I hope you’ll use this advice to get yourself back in the race.
To your success,
Nick
