The State of the Union Address And Salesmanship

I look forward to President Obama’s State of the Union Address tonight. Yes, I’m interested in the state of our Nation but as a sales trainer, I’m also interested in how concepts and ideas will be sold to Americans. That’s the reason I wrote this article.

It’s one thing to have great ideas or a great product and quite another thing to successfully sell those ideas and products. You may agree or disagree with our President tonight but one thing is certain. Sales skills and presentation skills will be evident in the State of the Union Address. I’ll have one ear on the message and one ear on how it’s presented or sold.

What sales skills will be involved in President Obama’s State of the Union Address?

The President will have to begin by successfully building rapport with the citizens of our great Nation.

President Obama’s State of the Union Address will have to uncover the needs, wants and desires of the citizens of this great Nation.

The benefits of any new initiatives presented in The Sate of the Union Address will have to be sold to members of both parties… and then some.

New initiatives, just like proposed product solutions, will have to be cost justified. This should be interesting.

The President’s State of the Union Address will have to successfully overcome any objections to his proposed solutions to our problems.

The President will have to close us after each new proposal offered during his State of the Union Address. He may be asking for our support but I’ll hear it as asking for the order.

Why can’t I view President Obama’s State of the Union Address simply as a State of the Union Address? The answer has to do with my passion for sales skills and professional salesmanship.

If you expect to succeed, you must master sales skills and the techniques of persuasion. I don’t care what profession you pursue. If you are serious about playing your “A Game”, get your hands on a powerful sales training course.
