Lazy Sales Reps Hurt The Profession
Lazy sales reps bother me because they give all sales reps a black eye. I’d walk on fire for sales reps that are trying to succeed but when it comes to lazy sales reps, I have no time for them. I also have no time for sales reps that are not interested in improving their sales skills.
So, what got me focused on lazy sales reps? Well, for quite some time, I’ve been looking to buy a house out of state. My trips out of state are costly so my time is valuable. In this market, you would think it would be easy to find the right house at the right price. Unfortunately, I’m having a hard time finding a motivated sales agent.
I’ll leave it up to you to decide if these agents qualify as lazy sales reps. I’ll tell you a little about my disappointments and what caused me to leave some of these sales agents behind.
One sales agent spent half a day driving me to different properties. The sales agent and I were seeing the properties together for the very first time. Since I’m coming from out of state, I feel the agent should have previewed the properties in preparation for my visit. You tell me… lazy sales rep or not?
How about this for a lazy sales rep? I went to a popular networking site and joined a group of real estate agents in the state I’m looking to get some property. I posted a request for an agent to contact me because I want to purchase some property. Not one agent contacted me. I guess they were all too busy complaining about the lack of buyers. In my opinion, these are a bunch of lazy sales reps.
Another sales agent showed me seven properties and I didn’t like any of them. Instead of showing me more properties, this rep tried to close me on the seven he presented. This lazy sales rep was too lazy to do the sales research.
Sure, I know about the desire to motivate these lazy sales reps. I say… park your desire! If making money or going broke isn’t enough motivation to get these lazy sales reps going, save your time and energy.
In sales, commissions cause us to live according to survival of the fittest. The good news is that lazy sales reps never last very long. The same can be said about sales reps that fail to improve their skills through sales training.
Don’t be a lazy sales rep and expect to succeed.
