What CEOs Need To Know About Being Better CEOs
Any CEO that isn’t asking how to be a better CEO should try to get a close relative on their company’s Board. It’s hard work being a CEO but many still wonder how they got so blessed to get the position in the first place. It’s time for me to tell these, and every CEO, what they need to know about how to be a better CEO.
I’ll write a series of articles on how to be a better CEO. I consider the new series to be compliment to my article – “How To Improve Corporate Sales”.
Let’s start with HR.
I support HR but I don’t support all the many responsibilities assigned to HR. HR is very important so don’t think I’m picking on them. However, I’ll begin my rant by saying I despise the term “Human Resources”. Can we say… “People”? “Human Resources” sounds like kidnapped farm workers… on Mars!
My problem with HR is that they should not be in the employee recruiting business. They were never very good at it and so you contracted with a Web Based “resume captor” and despite this terrible job market, you are still not hiring the best of the best. Why? The best of the best would never put up with your system’s nonsense.
Every CEO should try to apply for a job on their Web based career page.
- Enter Password
- Error – Password must be six characters long
- Error – Password must contain one number
- Confirm password
It goes on and on and on! Why would you hire anyone that would put up with that nonsense?
Now let’s look at your job qualifications. Let’s say you are looking for a sales rep to sell sand.
- Masters Degree in sand
- Twenty years of successful sand sales experience
- Nobel Prize
Are your job qualifications nothing more than a wish list? The employment market is bad… but not that bad. Good luck finding people that walk on water.
