Effective Sales Training Is Easy To Find

By, Nick Moreno

People often ask me about effective sales training. The word “effective” always stood out and caught my attention. I hardly ever see the word “effective” used to describe training programs other than sales training. If people are asking about effective sales training, they must believe there is a lot of ineffective sales training… and they are right.

I know a handful of sales trainers that always deliver effective sales training and get their students moving in a positive “money making” direction. Some of their programs are delivered in videos or sales training books. Others deliver their effective sales training in workshops or seminars.  Either way, this group always delivers powerful and effective sales training. They are a credit to the industry and they help people achieve their goals.

As you may guess, the sales training community is a tight group. As a professional courtesy, sales trainers hardly ever speak poorly about each other. Well, I’m different and I want you to have solid information about effective sales training.

My only professional courtesy to those sales reps that are looking to improve their sales productivity… not other trainers. So, I’m here to tell you that too many sales trainers wouldn’t know effective sales training if it hit them in the head. If you think I have a problem with those that promise effective sales training but failed to deliver your right!

Allow me to prove my point about effective sales training. I do everything to keep my cost down and I know unfortunately, that’s reflected in my site. I keep it simple yet packed with effective sales training videos and articles.  No flashy lights or banners are found on my site… just solid sales advice. In fact, of the 300 or so pages on my site, only around 12 are dedicated to paid service… the rest is free yet effective sales training.

Now to my point about sales trainers that wouldn’t know effective sales training if they fell on it. I ran across a Web page for a sales trainer that had every bell and whistle. The site just jumped out at you. This young fellow had pictures of himself next to many of the “old guard” sales trainers I grew up with but I never heard of this guy. Who was he and what’s he all about?

Well, those pictures with the “old school” trainers got my attention so I gave him positive points for marketing. The same is true for the “Flashy” aspect of his site but was his sales training effective?

Well, this  fellow wrote a story about himself. His claim to fame is that he was working in a warehouse and left to begin a sales career. He claimed that he was an instant success and now he’s charging people to tell them how he did it. Bologna!!! To think that someone is trying to sell this junk as an effective sales training.

How did he learn how to sell? If you can become a great sales success without a clue about sales skills, what was he selling… beside himself? Did a messenger from heaven instill the knowledge in him? If so, he should have also asked that messenger for the cure to cancer and the fix for this economy. Basically, this trainer’s pitch was that even if you knew nothing about sales skills or even the sales process, you could achieve overwhelming success in sales. Once again… bologna!!! This type of nonsense is not effective sales training in any way shape or form.

Can you see why I feel that too many sales trainers know nothing about effective sales training? Did I mention that the “trainer” I mentioned talked about his “secrets” and that he would reveal them to you for a price? Who told him about those secrets and how did he learn them on his first day in sales? To think that this person has the audacity to depict himself as someone involved in effective sales training is beyond my level of comprehension.

Unlike this fellow, I stunk when I started in sales. I had to learn how to sell. I spent my entire career learning and for that reason, the only sales training I’ll ever give to a client is… your guessed it… effective sales training.

I wish you great sales success!
