As a sales trainer, I understand the critical importance of providing people with the sales skills they need to succeed in sales. A sales trainer could be the difference in someone’s sales career’s success and failure. I enjoy my work as a sales trainer because it is important work that could change people’s lives for the better.
With so much depending on a sales trainer’s ability to improve sales results, a sales trainer must be ready to deliver as promised. This responsibility is just part of being a sales trainer. A sales trainer that fails to understand and even feel this responsibility, will not be a sales trainer for long.
Sales Trainer Challenge
I work as a sales trainer for both corporations and individuals that want to improve sales results. I view each entity differently and each has different challenges. First, I’d like to discuss my work as a sales trainer for individuals and the challenges it presents.
Corporate Sales Trainer
When a corporation searches for a sales trainer, funding is seldom an issue. After all, increasing sales is “mission critical” for any corporation with slumping sales productivity. As a sales trainer, my first question is about the reason sales volumes are falling. I can tell you it’s never about the product, the economy, the pricing or any other “excuses” a sales trainer hears. The problem, more often than not, is that sales training has been under funded, if not completely ignored for years. That’s a challenging message for any sales trainer to deliver. But, if a sales trainer isn’t delivering that message, who will?
My work as a sales trainer begins with a study of their corporate Lost Order Reports. I hear what the words never say, “We were outsold”. Few sales executives want to hear that their sales organization needs to quickly acquire improved sales skills. As a sales trainer, I have to tell them what is obvious to me yet so difficult for them to see. This is the most difficult challenge I face when I function as a sales trainer for a corporate sales force.
Individual Sales Trainer
Everything is different when I function as a sales trainer for individuals. As a sales trainer, I understand that money is always an issue for individuals that are not succeeding in sales. I need to provide them with cost effective sales training so my work as a sales trainer has to be delivered differently than a corporate sales training program. That’s why I’m a sales trainer that relies on DVDs and CDs to deliver my sales training programs.
Unlike corporations, I don’t have to convince these sales reps they need a sales trainer, they already know they need a sales trainer. They are already doing without commissions to pay the bills and their jobs may already be in jeopardy. I like to think that it’s never to late to get a sales trainer but a sales trainer is not a miracle worker. My challenge, as a sales trainer for individuals, is to find a way to have them find me before it may be too late to save their present job. I may not be able to save their present job but, as a sales trainer, I can help them to succeed in their next job and change everything for the better.
Sales Trainer On A Mission
My partner, John Giaquinta, is also a sales trainer. Together we developed a Corporate Sales Training Program named, “Superstar Sales Skills In A Box”. It is a 52-week sales training program that places sales skills at the center of a sales team’s culture. It also takes the burden of being a sales trainer off the corporate sales manager.
I also enjoy being the sales trainer for individuals that want to close more sales. If they need help implementing the sales process, they can get that help in my sales training video, “The Progressive Sales Process”. If they need more sales appointments, they can get those sales prospecting skills in my sales prospecting training program titled, “Leveraged Sales Prospecting”. I also help individuals looking to improve their sales skills with my sales training program, “Leveraged Sales Prospecting”.
As you now see, I carry two hats as a sales trainer. I’m both a corporate sales trainer and a sales trainer for individual sales reps.
I would not carry any hats if I didn’t enjoy my work as a sales trainer. I know it’s important work and I enjoy helping corporations and individuals succeed in sales.
I wish you best of success in your sales career,
Nick Moreno, Sales Trainer
